Sports massage is remedial work adapted to the demands of training and competition. Whether you are preparing for an event, recovering from a hard block of training, or working around a niggle that keeps returning, treatment is timed and pitched to where you are in your season.
Before and after an event
The right treatment depends on when you are competing.
- Before an event, work is brisk and comparatively short, intended to prepare tissue and range of movement without leaving you feeling heavy. Deep work is avoided close to competition.
- After an event, treatment is slower and gentler, aimed at easing stiffness and helping you return to normal training.
- Between events, we can work more thoroughly on the restrictions and imbalances that accumulate through a season.

Recurring niggles and training load
Injuries that keep coming back often have a cause somewhere other than the painful spot: a stiff hip loading a hamstring, or an old ankle restriction changing how you run. We assess movement patterns as well as tissue, and use muscle energy techniques and Post-Isometric Relaxation to restore range where it has been lost.
We do not diagnose sports injuries, and we will refer you on where that is what you need.
Stretching and self-management
Hands-on treatment works better when it is supported by what you do between sessions. Where it is useful, we will show you the specific stretches and loading that apply to your situation, so the change made in the session has a chance to hold.
