Remedial Massage in Rockhampton
Remedial massage is our cornerstone treatment. Rather than working to a fixed routine, each session begins with an assessment of how you move and where your pain is coming from, because the place that hurts is often not the place that is causing the problem. Treatment is then directed at the tissue and movement patterns behind the symptom.
What remedial massage is used for
Remedial massage is commonly used to help manage muscular pain, restricted joint movement and soft tissue injury. Clients typically come to us with:
- Acute and chronic neck, shoulder and lower back pain
- Postural strain from desk work, driving or repetitive lifting
- Muscle strains, tendon and ligament injuries
- Headaches and tension referred from the neck and jaw
- Reduced range of movement after injury or long periods of inactivity
Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical diagnosis. If your symptoms suggest something outside our scope, we will tell you and recommend you see your GP.
Our approach: Post-Isometric Relaxation
What distinguishes our remedial work is the integration of Post-Isometric Relaxation (PIR). PIR combines a gentle, controlled contraction of a muscle against light resistance, followed by a relaxation phase in which the muscle is taken into a new, more comfortable range. Applied carefully, this can reduce the protective tension that keeps a muscle short and painful.
We combine PIR with soft tissue release, trigger point work, muscle energy technique and gentle joint mobilisation, selected according to what the assessment shows on the day.
What to expect in a session
Your first visit begins with a health history form and a short conversation about your symptoms, your work and your goals. We assess your movement, explain what we have found, and agree on a treatment plan with you before any hands-on work begins.
You do not need to undress for the assessment or for the PIR component. Comfortable clothing such as sports shorts and a t-shirt is ideal. Draping is used throughout, and you can ask us to adjust pressure or stop at any point.
It is common to feel some tenderness for a day or so afterwards, much like the day after unfamiliar exercise. Drinking water and gentle movement usually settles it.
