Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Rockhampton

Therapist treating a client's lower leg

Lymphatic drainage is the lightest technique we offer, and the one most often misunderstood. It is not a deep massage performed slowly. The lymphatic vessels sit just beneath the skin, so the pressure used is barely more than the weight of a hand, applied in a slow, repeated rhythm that follows the direction of lymphatic flow.

What it is used for

Manual lymphatic drainage is commonly used as part of the management of:

We want to be plain about the limits here. Lymphatic drainage supports the movement of fluid; it does not "detoxify" the body, and it is not a treatment for the underlying medical conditions that cause swelling. Where swelling is significant or persistent, it needs to be assessed by your doctor first.

When it is not appropriate

Lymphatic drainage is not suitable for everyone. Please tell us before booking if you have, or suspect, heart failure, kidney failure, an active infection or cellulitis, a deep vein thrombosis, or an untreated malignancy. In these situations we will ask you to obtain clearance from your doctor, and in some cases we will decline to treat. This is a safety matter rather than a formality.

What a session feels like

The pressure is so light that clients sometimes ask whether anything is happening. Sessions are unhurried, because the rhythm and repetition are what make the technique work. You remain comfortably draped, and most people find the experience deeply calming.
